Johnson County Comprehensive Land Use Plan
Johnston County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of North Carolina and the U.S. Over the last decade, the rate of growth has outpaced the County’s ability to manage growth at a level that ensure the long-term feasibility of providing facilities and services to the community while protecting the many assets that define the county and seize economic opportunities. Leaders determined a new policy guide that considers recent investments and both short- and long-term challenges of rapid urbanization was necessary.

Southern Pines 2040 Comprehensive Plan
The Town of Southern Pines is experiencing the impacts of rapid growth in North Carolina. Land development activities have increased with the growing demand for housing and supporting commercial space. Town leaders’ concerns about changes occurring in Southern Pines, the potential loss of character and natural features, and the increasing burden on Town resources and infrastructure led to a decision to create the new 2040 Comprehensive Plan. It provides a new vision for future development and conservation. Nealon’s role was to prepare conceptual plans for development opportunities, including infill and redevelopment.

An Engaged Community is
a Resilient Community |
Nothing moves a community forward more effectively than a empowered populace. In a time of constrained budgets and competition for funding, the support and actions of people living and working in the community are crucial. Therefore, initiatives that build and maintain the commitment of individuals and organizations to the community have the best opportunity for success. Social capital is built along the way, strengthening the community and creating networks that are critical for long-term resiliency. Nealon Planning understands that each project must capture the attention of a wide range of stakeholders, give each a voice at key points during the process, and demonstrate the value of community in shaping an effective plan. At the conclusion of every planning effort, passionate champions emerge that believe in the community's vision. Equipped with a clear plan of action, they lead the charge as the important work of implementation begins.
